Is the Gibbon legal?
Yes. The Gibbon only assists you if you pedal yourself and stops at 25 km/h, with a 250W motor and no throttle. This makes it just an electric bike, not a moped. So you are allowed to ride it anywhere you can ride a regular bike.
How fast does the Gibbon go, and am I allowed to increase its speed?
The Gibbon supports speeds up to 25 km/h. Faster is not allowed: as soon as you tune a fatbike, it legally counts as a moped. You are then required to have insurance, a license plate, and a helmet, and your warranty becomes void. With our bikes, you ride safely within the rules.
Do I need a driver's license, insurance, or registration for the Gibbon?
No. Because the Gibbon supports up to 25 km/h, it counts as a regular bike. No driver's license, no license plate, no mandatory insurance. However, bike insurance against theft or damage is a smart idea, but that’s up to you.
From what age are you allowed to ride the Gibbon?
There is no legal minimum age for an electric bike like the Gibbon in the Netherlands. Anyone can ride it, and wearing a helmet is not mandatory.
How far can you go with the Gibbon on a single battery charge?
With the Gibbon, you can ride about 70 km on a full battery. The exact distance depends on your speed, your weight, how much assistance you use, and the wind.
What warranty do I get on the Gibbon?
You get a 3-year warranty on the frame and 1 year on the moving parts. If something breaks during that period due to a manufacturing defect, we will take care of it for you.

ApeRyder Gibbon red at GOfatbike

The ApeRyder Gibbon in red is the best-equipped model in the fatbike range, with a color that immediately catches the eye. Red gives the bike a sporty, striking look, while everything else remains the same: upright seating, wide tires, and a motor that assists as soon as you start pedaling. In this explanation, you’ll learn what the red Gibbon does well, who it’s intended for, and what to watch out for.

Entry and comfort

You can easily get on the red Gibbon and sit upright afterward. Your hands rest lightly on the handlebars and your feet reach the pedals well. The frame is designed for comfort, not a forward-leaning sporty position. This way, you can ride it relaxed to work or the store, and longer weekend rides go smoothly. If you want a sporty and sharp riding position, another type of bike makes more sense. Comfort is the priority with this model.

Range and battery

The battery is integrated into the frame and is one of the largest in the range. How far you go depends on your weight, the wind, the level of assistance, and how often you accelerate. So expect a range, not a fixed number. Riding calmly with light assistance extends the range, while riding mostly on the highest setting shortens it. When the battery is empty, you recharge it at a power outlet. The capacity is more than enough for daily rides.

Motor, speed, and regulations

The red Gibbon has a 250-watt motor that assists up to 25 kilometers per hour. You pedal yourself and there is no throttle, so the bike counts as a regular electric bike. You don’t need a driver’s license, registration, or helmet requirement. We advise against tuning: exceeding the allowed limit means the bike no longer qualifies as a regular e-bike, the brakes and frame aren’t designed for it, and you lose your warranty. So keep the assistance as it is by default.

Tires, brakes, and riding feel

The wide fatbike tires emphasize the sporty, red look and provide grip on the street, grass, or a loose sand path. They also absorb some of the vibrations, keeping the ride smooth. The brakes bring the bike to a neat stop, even when it's wet. The riding feel is stable rather than sprint-focused. The downside is the weight: the sturdy build makes the bike heavier than a regular city bike, so lifting it requires strength.

Who is this fatbike for

The red Gibbon is for those who want the most complete model with a striking color. Great for commuting, shopping, or a weekend ride, and its size also suits taller riders. Honestly, this is not the lightest or most maneuverable bike to carry or take on the train. If you want something small and handy, look at a simpler model. If you want comfort, range, and a bike that stands out in red, this comes close.

Ordering at GOfatbike

If you're still unsure, place the red version next to the other colors and see which you like best. Also, pay attention to the size that matches your height and riding style. The experiences of customers who already ride the Gibbon help you get an idea of daily use. The ApeRyder Gibbon in red is available at GOfatbike.
