Is the Gibbon legal?
Yes. The Gibbon only assists you if you pedal yourself and stops at 25 km/h, with a 250W motor and no throttle. This makes it just an electric bike, not a moped. So you are allowed to ride it anywhere you can ride a regular bike.
How fast does the Gibbon go, and am I allowed to increase its speed?
The Gibbon supports speeds up to 25 km/h. Faster is not allowed: as soon as you tune a fatbike, it legally counts as a moped. You are then required to have insurance, a license plate, and a helmet, and your warranty becomes void. With our bikes, you ride safely within the rules.
Do I need a driver's license, insurance, or registration for the Gibbon?
No. Because the Gibbon supports up to 25 km/h, it counts as a regular bike. No driver's license, no license plate, no mandatory insurance. However, bike insurance against theft or damage is a smart idea, but that’s up to you.
From what age are you allowed to ride the Gibbon?
There is no legal minimum age for an electric bike like the Gibbon in the Netherlands. Anyone can ride it, and wearing a helmet is not mandatory.
How far can you go with the Gibbon on a single battery charge?
With the Gibbon, you can ride about 70 km on a full battery. The exact distance depends on your speed, your weight, how much assistance you use, and the wind.
What warranty do I get on the Gibbon?
You get a 3-year warranty on the frame and 1 year on the moving parts. If something breaks during that period due to a manufacturing defect, we will take care of it for you.

ApeRyder Gibbon green at GOfatbike

The ApeRyder Gibbon in green is the best-equipped model in ApeRyder's fatbike range, now in a color that stands out without being flashy. The green gives the bike a fresh, unique look, while the setup remains the same: upright seating, wide tires, and a motor that assists as soon as you start pedaling. In this explanation, you'll learn what the green Gibbon does well, who it's intended for, and what to consider before choosing.

Entry and comfort

As soon as you get on, you notice how relaxed you sit on the green Gibbon. Your posture is upright, your hands rest lightly on the handlebars, and your feet are close to the pedals. The frame is designed for comfortable sitting, not for sporty leaning forward. This makes it pleasant to ride to work or the store, and even a longer weekend ride goes smoothly. If you’re looking for an aggressive, sporty position, another type of bike makes more sense. Comfort is the priority with this model.

Range and battery

The Gibbon’s battery is neatly integrated into the frame and offers one of the largest capacities in the range. How far you go depends on your weight, the wind, the level of assistance, and how often you accelerate. So don’t rely on a fixed number, but on a range. Riding calmly with light assistance yields more than constant full power. Empty is empty, and then you just plug it into a socket. The capacity is enough for your daily rides.

Motor, speed, and regulations

The green Gibbon has a 250-watt motor that supports up to 25 kilometers per hour. You keep pedaling yourself and there is no throttle, so the bike counts as a regular electric bike. You do not need a driver's license, registration, or helmet requirement. We advise against tuning the motor. If the bike goes faster than the allowed limit, it falls outside the category of regular e-bikes, the brakes and frame are not designed for it, and you lose your warranty. Therefore, keep the assistance at the standard setting.

Tires, brakes, and riding feel

The wide fatbike tires match the green look nicely and provide grip on pavement, grass, or loose sand. They also absorb some of the vibrations, keeping the ride smooth. The brakes stop the bike cleanly, even in rain. The riding feel is stable and relaxed, not focused on sprinting. The downside: the sturdy build makes the Gibbon heavier than a regular city bike, so lifting it on stairs or into a trunk requires strength.

Who is this fatbike for

The green Gibbon is for those who want the most complete model and at the same time a color with some character. Great for commuting, shopping, or a weekend ride, and the size is also comfortable if you are taller. To be honest: this is not the lightest or most agile choice to carry or take on the train. If you want something small and handy, look at a simpler model. If you want comfort, range, and a green look, this comes close.
