Is the Gibbon legal?
Yes. The Gibbon only assists you if you pedal yourself and stops at 25 km/h, with a 250W motor and no throttle. This makes it just an electric bike, not a moped. So you are allowed to ride it anywhere you can ride a regular bike.
How fast does the Gibbon go, and am I allowed to increase its speed?
The Gibbon supports speeds up to 25 km/h. Faster is not allowed: as soon as you tune a fatbike, it legally counts as a moped. You are then required to have insurance, a license plate, and a helmet, and your warranty becomes void. With our bikes, you ride safely within the rules.
Do I need a driver's license, insurance, or registration for the Gibbon?
No. Because the Gibbon supports up to 25 km/h, it counts as a regular bike. No driver's license, no license plate, no mandatory insurance. However, bike insurance against theft or damage is a smart idea, but that’s up to you.
From what age are you allowed to ride the Gibbon?
In the UK you must be 14 or over to ride an electric bike (EAPC) like this one on public roads (gov.uk). A helmet is not compulsory for EAPC riders, but it is recommended.
How far can you go with the Gibbon on a single battery charge?
With the Gibbon, you can ride about 70 km on a full battery. The exact distance depends on your speed, your weight, how much assistance you use, and the wind.
What warranty do I get on the Gibbon?
You get a 2-year warranty on the frame and 1 year on the moving parts. If something breaks during that period due to a manufacturing defect, we will take care of it for you.

ApeRyder Gibbon nardo grey at GOfatbike

The ApeRyder Gibbon in nardo grey is the best-equipped model in the fatbike range, in a matte grey shade that looks sleek and understated. Nardo grey gives the bike a calm, modern look without gloss that quickly shows dirt. The setup remains the same: upright seating, wide tires, and a motor that assists as soon as you pedal. Below you can read what the grey Gibbon can do, who it is intended for, and what to consider before choosing.

Entry and comfort

You can easily mount the nardo grey Gibbon and sit upright. Your hands rest loosely on the handlebars and your feet easily reach the pedals. The frame is built for comfort, not for a sporty forward-leaning position. This makes it pleasant to ride to work or the store, and a longer weekend ride goes smoothly. If you want a sharp and sporty position, a different type of bike is needed. Comfort is the priority with this model.

Range and battery

The battery is integrated into the frame and offers one of the largest capacities in the range. How far you go is not a fixed number: your weight, the wind, the level of assistance, and the number of starts determine the range. So think in terms of a margin. Riding calmly with light assistance yields more kilometers than constant full throttle. Empty is empty, and then you recharge it at a power outlet. The capacity is more than sufficient for daily use.

Motor, speed, and regulations

The grey Gibbon has a 250-watt motor with assistance up to 25 kilometers per hour. You pedal yourself and there is no throttle, so the bike counts as a regular electric bike. No license, registration, or helmet requirement applies. We advise against tuning: above the allowed limit, the bike falls outside the category of regular e-bikes, the brakes and frame are not designed for it, and you lose your warranty. Therefore, keep the assistance at the standard setting.

Tires, brakes, and riding feel

The wide fatbike tires match the sleek, matte gray frame and provide grip on the street, grass, or a bit of loose sand. They also absorb some of the vibrations, keeping the ride smooth. The brakes stop the bike cleanly, even in the rain. The riding feel is stable and calm rather than sprint-focused. Keep in mind that the sturdy build makes the bike heavier than a regular city bike, so lifting it on stairs or into a car requires strength.

Who is this fatbike for

The nardo gray Gibbon is for those who want the most complete model in a subdued color that won’t quickly get boring. Great for commuting, shopping, and weekend rides, and its size also suits taller people. To be honest: this is not the lightest or most agile choice for carrying or taking on the train. If you want something small and handy, choose a simpler model. If you want comfort, range, and a sleek gray look, this is a good fit.

Ordering at GOfatbike

If you can’t decide yet, place the nardo gray version next to the other colors and see which you like best. Also pay attention to the size that matches your height and riding style. Customer experiences with the Gibbon provide a good idea of daily use. The ApeRyder Gibbon in nardo gray is available at GOfatbike.
