Phatfour FLX+ at GOfatbike
In light blue, the Phatfour FLX+ immediately stands out, and beneath that color is a fatbike designed for quiet kilometers and low maintenance. It is the more advanced version of this model, featuring a belt drive and hydraulic brakes. You sit upright, the motor assists as soon as you pedal, and the thick tires ensure a stable ride. Below you can read what the FLX+ can do and what to watch out for before making a choice.
Design and construction
The design of the FLX+ is inspired by a classic Simplex motorcycle from 1906, which you can see in the rounded lines and the steel frame. The bike is hand-built and finished with attention to detail, making it feel sturdier than a regular city bike. The appearance is timeless, so even after a few years the fatbike doesn’t look outdated. This is the more advanced version within the range, with a few clear differences compared to the entry-level model. The steel contributes to a planted feeling on the road, something you especially notice on longer straight stretches.
Drive and brakes
Where the entry-level model uses a chain, the FLX+ uses a belt drive. This belt runs almost silently, requires little maintenance, and leaves no grease on your pants or hands. Combined with the motor with two gears, you pedal off smoothly, even from a standstill. The hydraulic disc brakes bring you to a controlled stop, even when the bike is loaded heavier or the road surface is wet or loose. This gives a calm and confident feeling when braking.
Motor, speed, and regulations
The motor supports you up to 25 km/h and stays within the 250-watt class typical of a regular electric bike. There is no throttle, so assistance only comes when you pedal yourself. Because of this, the FLX+ is considered a regular e-bike and you don’t need a driver’s license, registration, or helmet. Do not modify the bike to go faster, as this will void that status and simultaneously void your warranty.
Range and battery
The FLX+ has a battery designed for longer life, and in practice, you can reach around 100 kilometers on a single charge. Consider this more as a guideline than a firm promise, as your actual range depends on your weight, the wind, tire pressure, and how much assistance you use. If you ride mostly in the highest setting or against the wind, you will go less far than on a calm day with light assistance. For daily use and longer rides, this is usually more than enough. If you mainly take short trips, you only need to recharge occasionally; if you plan a long trip, fully charge beforehand and use the assistance sparingly along the way.
Riding position, tires, and ride feel
You sit upright on a two-person saddle, which is comfortable for longer rides and sometimes an extra passenger. The extra-wide tires provide a lot of grip and smooth out bumps, so you stay stable on asphalt, cobblestones, or an unpaved path. This comfort has a downside, as a fatbike like this is heavier than a regular bike. Lifting and storing it requires more space and strength, something to consider if you often need to bring the bike indoors. With slightly lower tire pressure, the ride is softer, while higher pressure rolls more smoothly on smooth asphalt, allowing you to adjust the ride feel to where you usually go.
