Is the Astra legal?
Yes. The Astra only assists you if you pedal yourself and stops at 25 km/h, with a 250W motor and no throttle. This makes it just an electric bike, not a moped. So you are allowed to ride it anywhere you can ride a regular bike.
How fast does the Astra go, and am I allowed to increase its speed?
The Astra supports speeds up to 25 km/h. Faster is not allowed: once you modify an e-bike to go faster, it is legally considered a moped. You are then required to have insurance, a license plate, and a helmet, and your warranty becomes void. With our bikes, you ride safely within the rules.
Do I need a driver's license, insurance, or registration for the Astra?
No. Because the Astra supports speeds up to 25 km/h, it counts as a regular bike. No driver's license, no license plate, no mandatory insurance. However, bike insurance against theft or damage is a smart idea, but that’s up to you.
From what age are you allowed to ride the Astra?
There is no legal minimum age for an electric bike like the Astra in the Netherlands. Anyone can ride it, and a helmet is not mandatory.
How far can you go with the Astra on a single battery charge?
With the Astra, you can ride about 150 km on a full battery. The exact distance depends on your speed, your weight, how much assistance you use, and the wind.
What warranty do I get on the Astra?
You get a 3-year warranty on the frame and 1 year on the moving parts. If something breaks during that period due to a manufacturing defect, we will take care of it for you.

JOBOBIKE Astra at GOfatbike

The JOBOBIKE Astra is a versatile electric bike that feels at home both in the city and on longer rides. The frame features a low step-through design, making mounting and dismounting easy. You sit upright on large wheels, and the motor provides smooth assistance as soon as you start pedaling. Below, we’ll walk through what the Astra can do, its strengths, and what to watch out for before you choose. It’s a bike you can use just as well for daily commuting as for longer trips.

Frame and low step-through

The frame has a step-through design with a low entry, so you can easily step over it with one leg. This is convenient if you frequently get on and off the saddle in traffic, and it adds extra safety when stopping. The frame is made from 6061 aluminum and weighs around 30 kilos—sturdy but still manageable when storing. The battery is integrated into the frame for a sleek look. From about 155 cm in height, you’ll fit well on this model, with a maximum load capacity of 120 kilos.

Seating, comfort, and equipment

You sit upright with your eyes on the road, which is comfortable for longer rides. The Kenda 27.5-inch tires with puncture protection roll smoothly and absorb small bumps. Up front is a hydraulic fork with lock-out, allowing you to lock the suspension on smooth asphalt. An MIK luggage rack makes attaching accessories and bags easy, and the complete lighting system with automatic brake light keeps you visible. On the Bluetooth display, you can track your ride and adjust settings via the app.

Range and battery

The 36V 15Ah battery is neatly integrated into the frame and provides a generous range. How far you go depends on your weight, the wind, the chosen support level, and the type of route. So, expect a margin rather than a fixed number. There is plenty of reserve for commuting, a fitness ride, or a longer trip on the weekend. You charge it simply via the included cable, with the battery on or off the bike. If you often choose the highest support, the battery will logically run out faster.

Motor, gears, and the rules

The 250W motor with 45 Nm torque works together with a torque sensor that measures your pedaling force and adjusts the assistance accordingly. With 5 support levels, you decide how much help you want. The assistance runs up to 25 km/h, you always pedal yourself, and there is no throttle. This makes the Astra a regular electric bike, without a license, registration, or helmet requirement. You shift with the Shimano 8-speed gears. We advise against tuning: the bike then falls outside that category, brakes and frame are not designed for it, and your warranty will be void.

Who is the Astra for

The Astra suits those who want a comfortable, upright riding position and value easy mounting and dismounting. Because of the low step-through frame, it is popular with those who prefer not to lift their leg high when getting on. To be honest: with 27.5-inch wheels and a weight around 30 kilos, this is not a light bike to carry up stairs. If you want something compact for the train, look elsewhere. If you want a stable bike for the city and longer rides, this is a good choice. The step-through also makes it comfortable for those who don’t want to lift their leg high when mounting.
