The ENGWE O20 Boost is a compact electric folding bike for those who want to park small but still have a full-fledged bike. You fold it up, carry it onto the train or put it in the trunk, and on site, you unfold it again in no time. Folding and carrying

The foldable 6061 aluminum frame is made for travel. Folded, the bike measures about 154 by 52.5 by 85 centimeters, small enough for a trunk or a corner under your desk. Handy if you take a train or car for part of your trip and bike the last stretch. Of course, a folding bike with battery and motor is heavy, so expect some lifting when there’s no elevator. For daily folding and unfolding, that’s fine, but if you carry it up three flights every day, keep that in mind.

Range and battery

The battery is a 48V 15Ah pack with 720 Wh and LG cells. How far you get on one charge depends on many factors: your weight, the wind, the level of assistance chosen, and how much you brake and accelerate in the city. So don’t count on a fixed number but on a range that varies per ride. If you ride efficiently, you’ll clearly get more than on the highest setting. Charging takes about 3.5 hours, so plug it in at night and you’re ready the next morning. The maximum load is 150 kg.

Motor, speed, and regulations

At the front is a 250W hub motor with a torque sensor that senses how hard you pedal and adjusts the assistance accordingly. With 75 Nm of torque, you get off smoothly and can climb hills without getting off. You choose from five levels of assistance up to 25 km/h, and there is no throttle: you always pedal yourself. This means the O20 Boost counts as a regular electric bike, with no license, registration, or helmet requirement. Shifting is done with eight Shimano Altus gears. We advise against tuning it up, as that puts you outside the legal category, the brakes and frame aren’t built for it, and your warranty will be void.

Tires, brakes, and riding feel

The low step-through frame makes mounting and dismounting easy, even with a bag in your hand. The hydraulic front fork with 50 mm travel absorbs curbs and bumps, and with the adjustable lockout, you can lock the suspension when you want a direct pedal feel on smooth asphalt. The 20-inch puncture-resistant tires roll steadily and reduce the chance of flats. You brake with hydraulic disc brakes with dual pistons and 160 mm rotors front and rear, which also stop quickly in the rain. Front and rear lights help when it gets dark. The riding feel is calm and agile.

The O20 Boost suits you if you have limited space or often switch transport modes. Think of the commuter who takes the bike on the train, someone with a small storage space, or anyone who puts it in the trunk for a day out. The low step-through and front fork also make it comfortable for relaxed riders who prioritize comfort over sportiness. If you’re looking for a wide fatbike with big balloon tires for long rides, this is not your bike.
