Is the EP-2 3.0 Boost legal?
Yes. The EP-2 3.0 Boost only assists you when you pedal yourself and stops at 25 km/h, with a 250W motor and no throttle. This makes it simply an electric bike, not a moped. So you are allowed to ride it anywhere you can ride a regular bike.
How fast does the EP-2 3.0 Boost go, and am I allowed to increase its speed?
The EP-2 3.0 Boost supports speeds up to 25 km/h. Faster is not allowed: once you tune a fatbike, it legally counts as a moped. You are then required to have insurance, a license plate, and a helmet, and your warranty becomes void. With our bikes, you ride safely within the rules.
Do I need a driver's license, insurance, or registration for the EP-2 3.0 Boost?
No. Because the EP-2 3.0 Boost supports up to 25 km/h, it counts as a regular bike. No driver's license, no license plate, no mandatory insurance. A bike insurance against theft or damage is smart, but that’s up to you.
From what age are you allowed to ride the EP-2 3.0 Boost?
There is no legal minimum age for an electric bike like the EP-2 3.0 Boost in the Netherlands. Anyone is allowed to ride it, and wearing a helmet is not mandatory.
How far can you go with the EP-2 3.0 Boost on a single battery charge?
With the EP-2 3.0 Boost, you can ride about 120 km on a full battery. The exact distance depends on your speed, your weight, how much assistance you use, and the wind.
What warranty do I get on the EP-2 3.0 Boost?
You get a 3-year warranty on the frame and 1 year on the moving parts. If something breaks during that period due to a manufacturing defect, we will take care of it for you.

ENGWE EP-2 3.0 Boost at GOfatbike

The ENGWE EP-2 3.0 Boost is an electric fatbike for those who like to hop on and go. A compact fatbike with wide tires and a frame that easily takes you from city streets to forest trails. You sit upright, have a good view, and the pedal assist works smoothly. Below you’ll read what this fatbike does for you in practice, and for whom it might be less suitable.

Low step-through and comfort

The first thing you notice is how easy it is to get on the EP-2 3.0 Boost. The frame has a low step-through, so you don’t have to lift your leg high. Handy if you often get on and off, at your door or a traffic light. You sit upright, with your hands relaxed on the handlebars. This makes a short ride through the city feel just as comfortable as a longer weekend trip.

To be fair, a low step-through also means a slightly less sporty posture than a tight diamond frame. Those who like to ride bent forward and aggressively will notice this when accelerating from a standstill.

Range and battery

The battery is removable. You can click it out and take it inside to charge, for example next to your desk or in the hallway. No hassle with an outlet way back in the shed.

How far you get on a full charge? That depends on more than you might think. Your weight, headwind, level of assistance, and how much you pedal all matter. Taking it easy on a flat bike path gives you a generous range. Turn the assistance up high and pedal hard against the wind, and the battery drains much faster. So we don’t promise a hard number.

Motor, speed, and regulations

The EP-2 3.0 Boost has a 250W motor and supports speeds up to 25 km/h. Above that, the motor cuts out and you pedal on your own power. There is no throttle; you get assistance only while pedaling.

Due to the combination of 250W and up to 25 km/h with pedal assistance and no throttle, the bike counts as a regular electric bike. That means no driver's license, no registration plate, and no helmet requirement.

We advise against increasing the motor power. Doing so removes the bike from the regular electric bike category, with all the consequences for insurance and approval. Moreover, the drive system is tuned for that 25 km/h, not more.

Tires, brakes, and riding feel

The wide tires make this fatbike so enjoyable to ride. They simply absorb a curb or a tree root on the path, so you hardly feel it. You also stay stable on a sandy trail or wet grass.

The riding feel is calm and controlled. You don’t steer nervously; you roll. The Boost version gives you just an extra push when accelerating, nice at a traffic light or at the foot of a small bridge. If you accelerate with groceries or a child on the back, you immediately notice that extra push.

Keep in mind that wide tires and a sturdy frame add weight. Lifting it to a second floor isn’t something you do with a finger.

Who is this model for

The EP-2 3.0 Boost suits the daily rider who seeks comfort. Commuting through the city, a weekend ride through the forest or along the water. If you like to get on easily and prefer sitting upright, this is a good fit.

And who is it less for? If you’re a sporty rider who wants to cover kilometers bent forward and chase the last bit of speed, a sleek e-race bike makes more sense. If you often carry your bike up stairs, the weight is something to consider beforehand.
